John holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), Diploma of Education and Master of Arts. After teaching and leading in independent schools, he completed further study in Educational Leadership at the University of Melbourne.
In 1996, John established John Marks Consulting and was a member of the pilot review team for the Victorian Government's Schools of the Future initiative. He later joined a corporate human resources firm as a Senior Consultant, where he established its Education Division and specialised in executive recruitment across education and industry.
Driven by a belief that schools deserved a more thoughtful and personalised approach to recruitment, John founded John Marks & Associates in 1999. For more than 25 years, the consultancy has partnered with Catholic, Independent and Government schools to source exceptional leaders, teachers and professional staff.
